This artwork is part of my Amazonian Afrofuturism research, an artistic practice that creates characters and narratives through the intersection of Amazonian, Indigenous, Afro-diasporic, and futuristic references.
The character portrayed is a (Cacique) indigenous chief inspired by the Anacã, a bird native to the Amazon region. In this interpretation, the Anacã takes the form of a guiding entity that illuminates paths and leads those who travel through darkness. The torch and lighting effects reinforce themes of guidance, protection, and knowledge.
The composition combines ancestral and technological elements. The cyberpunk-inspired mask symbolizes the connection between memory, identity, and the future, imagining new possibilities for Amazonian cultures.
From a technical perspective, this artwork is part of a digital painting study based on the concepts of form, color, and texture presented by Zayn in his educational series. I explored different visual surfaces by contrasting the metallic texture of the mask, the organic quality of the skin, and the feathers of the headdress. I also experimented with light and shadow to create volume, atmosphere, and narrative depth. As such, the work represents both a conceptual investigation and an exercise in learning and developing digital painting techniques.
