My name is NekkooXD, I am a self learning artist and I would like to improve dynamic pose in body drawing, it's hard for me to draw dynamic poses because I do not have the basics about body drawing, at least that is what I think. Here is a fan art of a game that I was making before not continuing it because the more I drew the body, the more I got lost not knowing what to do.

First, I am not making this post to say that self-learning is bad or anything like that. On the contrary, it is truly important to learn things on our own.

But like with any subject, you should at least learn the right way, because it is very easy to get lost when you are learning by yourself. If you don't have a friend to learn with, you can at least watch tutorials. There are a lot of experts who share their expertise online for free. Even in real life, you just have to look for them to find and assimilate the knowledge they are sharing. It may be hard at first, but after a lot of effort, you will be able to see the difference.

While it feels satisfying to learn things on our own, it is also important to learn them well. There are rules, and rules aren't meant to be broken right away; they are there to be followed so you don't get lost. Take music, for example: if you compose a song but just use anything you want, it ends up being inaudible. At least learn the basics, and then you can try to break those established rules to create your own style.

If possible, do not hesitate to ask—not always for help, but also to ask questions. Like, "how does one approach perspective drawing?" for example. Some people may just imagine the angle, others might draw lines to follow, among many other methods I didn't mention.

One of the best sources is obviously the XPPen Community Tutorials. At first, I didn't want to watch their tutorials because I had already watched a lot of videos before. But when I watched just one, it was really helpful. Their tutorials are among the best and clearest I have ever seen. They are precise, and I really like the fact that they actually focus on the basics that a lot of other tutorial videos ignore because they assume you already know them.

This leads me to the last point. Do not hesitate to watch tutorials even if you have already watched a video about the topic before. It is really helpful to gather knowledge from various sources. Why? Because even if we all have our own methods of learning, we also know that when information comes from multiple sources, we tend to remember it better because it makes it more important—it has more impact.

Think of it like this: when a friend presents a game you've never played or heard of, you may or may not be interested. However, when several of your friends present you with the same game over and over, sooner or later you will actually give it a try. It is the same with drawing—if not everything you will learn in life. The more you remind yourself of something over time, the longer that thing will stay in your head.
