Head Practice

The "How to Draw Head" tutorial was simple and well put together. I learned that all it takes is just a circle and triangle as the base and placement to draw different genders and also a child, a teenager and adult. For this exercise I will be using my female oc, Kylie and male oc, Pierre. The goal was to draw them from different head views and also as a child and teenager based on the tutorial. I have also included an additional step that I learned from watching a past tutorial on how to make characters look consistent.

I'll start with drawing Pierre as an adult from 3 angles and also as a child and a teenager.

First I draw the guidelines for the front view, side profile and 3/4 view which, for me, is the hardest one of the 3. Then I map out where each feature on their face goes. This is what I learned from a past tutorial. In order to have a character looking the same each time from different angles, you use the layout of the features from the front view as a guideline for other angles. This means the hairline to eyebrow would be the same place, the distance from the eyebrow to the bottom of the nose, the eyes are positioned at the same place. My marks go at the hairline, eyebrows, eyes, nose, lips, chin and ears. That way whenever I draw him, you can always see the connection each time.

If the face is tilted or at a more complex angle then the proportions would be slightly off but if the features are the same each time you draw a character then anyone could tell who you're drawing.

Ps. If you change positions of a feature on the face in a specific view, to make it more consistent, you should adjust said feature in all views. Example, instead of drawing the ears on a character higher in the side profile alone, do the same with the character from a front facing angle and a 3/4 view.

After that, I add his features in along with the hair.
