This is my submission for the 2023 XPPen Drawing Awards The theme is growth and evolution In this piece I have my OC Satarii who represents me in this scenario, crying and in despair as the many hands of a demon haunt and pull her down, her younger self offers her a paint brush. This is the evolution I experienced in my fight against Bipolar depression and how drawing became a powerful weapon in my arsenal of mental fortitude. In the journey of teaching myself to draw I discovered hope, and joy for when I felt neither. It fostered in me a transition from a life of despair to the happiness I experience when I draw. The message however is deeper than just this transition. It is a rediscovery of my creative self which i have abandoned when I was younger. The younger me who aspired to be creative I forsaken in the pursuit of a "career that was lucrative" which led me to a very unhappy place anyway. Rediscovering my creativity made me happy, and continues to do so. In a way, art keeps me around. There is also significance with the blood, the physical pain in which this depression causes, the inclination towards self harm She tries to reach out through the pain. She bleeds as she tries to reach for the paint brush at realizing who is offering her the brush, and the rediscovery of her younger self.
