This illustration is my tribute to the emotional atmosphere of Weathering With You, capturing the feeling of freedom, hope, and human connection as two characters drift through an endless sky. Rather than recreating a movie scene exactly, I focused on conveying the emotional bond between them through their expressions, body language, and the vast sea of clouds surrounding them. The process began with creating several thumbnail sketches to find the most dynamic composition. I wanted the characters' joined hands to become the focal point, so I experimented with different camera angles before settling on a perspective that emphasized both movement and distance. After refining the anatomy and perspective, I cleaned up the line art and established the base colors. I then gradually rendered the characters with soft shading while building the cloudscape using layered brushes, atmospheric lighting, and subtle color variations to create depth and a cinematic feeling. The final stage involved adding highlights, glow effects, and overall color adjustments to unify the illustration and enhance its dreamy mood. The XP-Pen Deco Mini7 V2 was an essential part of my workflow throughout the project. Its responsive pen pressure made it easy to switch between precise line work and soft painterly blending, allowing me to render delicate cloud textures and smooth skin tones naturally.
